Articles of Marriage of Robert Quine Junior and Jane Halsal - 1778

 

Articles of Marriage contracted concluded & agreed upon by & betwixt Robert Quine of Kk Braddan & Margaret Quine als Clague his wife for & in behalf of their son Robert Quine on the one Part And Patrick Halsal of Kk Patrick in behalf of his daughter Jane Halsal on the other Part do witness as follows -

First it is agreed upon that the said young couple Viz. Robert Quine Junr & Jane Halsal shall be joined in the Holy Estate of matrimony together before the expiration of a month God & Holy Church permitting the same -

2dly As agreed upon He the sd Robert Quine Senior & said wife doth hereby give Grant Settle & Estate upon their said son Robert Quine Junr the one half of all their Tenement of houses & lands with one half of the mortgage or incumbrance on the said land or tenement situate in the parish of Kk Braddan Commonly called by the name of Arderry Commencing at & from Michaelmas next ensuing the date hereof

3dly As agreed upon He the sd Patrick Halsal do hereby covenant promise & oblige himself to give to & with his said daughter Jane Halsal as marriage Dowry or portion the Just sum of Twenty Eight Pounds good & lawful money Currency of this Isle to be paid Michaelmas next ensuing the date hereof also he the sd Patrick Halsal doth further oblige himself to give his daughter a feather Bed & Bolster with a suit of Bed Clothes to the same

For true & Faithfull performance hereof all the afforesaid parties herein do hereby bind & oblige themselves respectively the one Party to the other & their heirs Exrs Admtrs & assigns in & under the Penalty of Two Hundred Pounds sterling to be Leveyed & paid according to Law In Witness whereof they have hereuntosigned or added their marks to their names this 13th of February 1778
